Committed to safety

The Star Online, 20 November 2012

THE practice of occupational safety and health is important in ensuring that workers do not get injured while at work, said Penang Occupational Safety and Health Department deputy director (technical service) Ahmad Nazri Abdul Kader.

He said: “Employees should follow the standard operating procedure (SOP) formulated by the employer as it is meant to keep them safe.”

He then congratulated the Star Publications (M) Bhd management and also the company’s safety and health team in organising the three-day ‘Safety Campaign 2012 @ Northern Hub’ which started yesterday at Star Northern Hub in Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah.

Star Publications executive director Tan Sri Kamal Hashim emphasised that the company would always give its full commitment in ensuring the safety and well being of the employees.

“One must always be alert to the dangers in the workplace.

“Do not take unnecessary risks. If you see colleagues doing things which are a danger to them, let them know,” he said his opening speech.

The opening ceremony was attended by Star Publications regional operations manager (North) Chung Chok Yin, regional editor (North) Choi Tuck Wo, advertisement manager (North) Simone Liong, circulation manager (North) Oun Sui Leng, IT manager (North) Khoo Boo Taik, and Star Publications (M) Bhd Safety, Health and Environment manager Eric Sjaunir Sjoekoer.

Employees took the opportunity to visit the exhibition booths on organic products, optical wear, fitness consultation and packages, foot arch corrective support and others at the Star Northern Hub lobby.

They were also given free glucose and blood pressure checks by Pantai Hospital Penang.

There will also be zumba and aerobic dance today as well as safety talks today and tomorrow.
