KUCHING: Kuching City North Commission (DBKU) hopes to significantly reduce accidents in the workplace with its ‘OSH Eyes’ 2014 campaign which encourages staff to report any unsafe practices or

conditions.

Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai laubched the OSH (Occupational Safety and Health) Eyes 2014 yesterday, a brainchild of DBKU Safety and Health Committee that rewards each certified report with RM2.

The best and most effective report will be given incentive of RM200 and a plaque early next year. There are also second and third best reports as well, with incentive of RM150 and RM100 respectively.

Abdul Wahap said they eventually wanted to get residents under DBKU involved in keeping Kuching safe.

“If you see anything that is considered unsafe, please tell us. We want to correct all these before something happens,” he told reporters after DBKU’s monthly assembly.

In this month’s ‘DBKU Cares’ programme, they decided to focus on helping Sarawak Hospice Society, a group that specialises in palliative care for terminal cancer patients.

The society’s chairman Dr Tang Tiang Swee was present to receive an air compressing nebuliser, ripple mattress and electronic blood pressure monitor from Abdul Wahap.

DBKU also honoured a staff member and four retired
staff.

Daut Kelas from Assessment and Taxation achieved his 25th year milestone on June 1. He was presented with a certificate of appreciation, a watch and an ASB Investment worth RM500.

Four other former staff received certificate and a watch each for their services. They were Luha Akaw (Health and Environment), Hasna Kem (Landscape and Planning), Razali Amin (Administration) and Wan Marzuki Tku Hassan (Health and Environment).

DBKU also acknowledged their webmaster Awang Nikmanul Hakim Awang Kadri, whose work earned them five stars from the Malaysian Government Portals and Website.
