CARING EMPLOYER: RHB Bank holds three-day campaign to raise awareness of the importance of safety and health at the workplace

KUALA LUMPUR: RHB Bank recently launched the Occupational Safety and Health Campaign 2013 to promote a safe and healthy working environment for its employees and  a better understanding of the importance of safety and health issues at the workplace.

The campaign will help to reduce work place accidents for employees and visitors alike.

"Making the workplace safe is a joint responsibility of both employer and employees," said RHB Banking Group managing director Kellee Kam.

"An effective health and safety system in the workplace can have a significant positive effect on productivity, and therefore on an organisation's success."

He also added that, based on internal findings, most health cases that affected staff were work stress-related and orthopedic injuries to the hands or wrists and shoulders.

The RHB Banking Group has put in place various measures to assist its staff in managing work-related health and safety issues. These include setting up a gym at the RHB Centre and producing a handbook to educate and raise awareness among staff related to health and safety issues.

Health awareness programmes including talks and training sessions are also held and employees are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular/outdoor activities. This year, in conjunction with RHB Bank's 100th anniversary, an expedition to climb Mount Kinabalu will be organised.

The three-day campaign was launched by National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye. Also present was RHB Bank Bhd chairman Tan Sri Azlan Zainol.

A series of activities including a training session, talks and a blood donation drive took place at the RHB Centre in partnership with various organisations and authorities. These included NIOSH, Department of Occupational Safety and Health, Road Safety Department, Royal Malaysian Police, Social Security Organisation, Fire and Rescue Services Department, National Anti-Drug Agency Malaysia, Red Crescent Society, National Blood Bank, Lourdes Medical Centre and TAGS Spine and Joint Specialists.
