Fire risk assessment a regular activity

Borneo Post Online, 5 November 2012

KUCHING: Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd carries out fire risk assessments on a regular basis in accordance with the company’s Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) policies.

Besides having an enacted fire management plan in place, fire risk assessments include identification of fire hazards as well as persons most at risk from fire, besides ways to minimise such risks.

To further cultivate a ‘safety as priority’ mindset among staff, a fire and search-and-rescue drill was carried out in the company’s Kuching Integrated Waste Management Park (KIWMP) recently.

Team members had to extinguish a simulated fire while removing ‘injured’ persons to emergency assembly points using appropriate methods and equipment including handling and assembling firefighting equipment.

Comprising 15 staff from several departments within KIWMP, the drill was organised by the Hazardous Waste Incinerator (HWI) Department under the observation of Trienekens’ HSE Division.

The exercise ended with an assessment of the drill, and a fire safety refresher briefing to educate participants on fire safety, and the correct escape and saving techniques.
