- Hygiene Technician 2 (HT2) is responsible for conducting inspections and testing of the effectiveness of engineering control equipment in the workplace as required under the Occupational Safety and Health (Use and Standard disclosure of Hazardous Chemicals to Health) Regulations 2000.An employer must appoint, hire or employ competent persons called HT2 to carry out the inspection and testing of the effectiveness of engineering control equipment in accordance with the standards set by the Department.Hygiene Technician 2 (HT2) must:
- Conducts inspections and testing of the effectiveness of engineering control equipment in the workplace
- Prepares and submits a complete report of the employer's inspection and effectiveness test within 30 days of the completion of the inspection and testing
- Present the results of inspections and testing of the effectiveness of engineering control equipment and recommending measures for improvement to employers within 30 days of completion of inspection and testing;
- Submit a brief report to the Director General within 30 days of the completion of the examination and testing; and
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as specified in the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations (Use and Standard of Exposure to Hazardous Chemicals to Health) 2000.
Qualifications
Option 1:- Certified Industrial Hygienist
- Has passed Hygiene Technician 2 (Part II) examination conducted by NIOSH
- Minimum Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational / Industrial Hygiene
- Has passed Hygiene Technician 2 examination conducted by NIOSH
- Diploma in Engineering, or Natural & Applied Science
- Has attended the course for Hygiene Technician 2
- Has passed Hygiene Technician 2 examination conducted by NIOSH
- Has a minimum of 1 year working experience in Occupational Safety & Health
- Applicant may be asked to attend an interview if he/she meets the above requirement (for applicant that has passed the examination before 1 July 2010). Applicant will be registered as HT 1 after he/she passes the interview.
- For applicant that has passed the examination after 1 July 2010, applicant will be registered as HT1 Competent Person if he/she meets the above requirement.
- Registration period is 3 years.
