Yayasan Sabah Group to provide OSH training

KOTA KINABALU: Yayasan Sabah Group is looking into providing occupational safety and health training to those working in the oil and gas industry.

The foundation plans on establishing a training centre at the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal in Kimanis.

It would be developed on an 4.45ha site with facilities and equipment required to perform emergency drills, and basic health, safety and environment (HSE) exercises.

Foundation Senior Group Manager (Human Resources and Corporate Services), Rosmawati Lasuki said the centre aimed at providing training to Sabahans, especially the youth.

"A variety of courses related to the health and safety of the oil and gas sector will be conducted at the training centre, including Minimum Industrial Standards, Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training.

"We hope the centre will be a leading HSE training centre not only in Sabah but also in the region," she said in a statement, yesterday.

The establishment of the training centre will be a collaboration between KKYS Sdn Bhd, Asian Supply Base Sdn Bhd in the Federal Territory of Labuan, and Borneo Safety Training Services Sdn Bhd based in Miri, Sarawak.

The foundation is also supported by Petronas, which is a prime mover in the oil and gas industry in the country.

On another issue, Rosmawati said the foundation is collaborating with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health to issue training modules in other fields of expertise

She said the modules would be given to staff and contractors under the Yayasan Sabah Group who work in the fields of agriculture, forestry, construction, manufacturing and tourism.
