MALACCA: Noise-induced hearing loss tops the list of occupational diseases last year with 956 cases, Human Resource Ministry secretary-general, Datuk Seri Zainal Rahim Seman said today.

He said based on statistics by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), the second highest was occupational lung diseases, with 11 cases, followed by musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), with 95 cases.

Most of the cases were reported in the manufacturing sector, he said in his speech when opening the World Day For Safety And Health at Work at Dataran Ayer Keroh here today.

As such, he expressed the need for employers in all sectors and industries to further upgrade aspects on the safety and health of their workers by providing a conducive and safe working environment.

The rapid global and technological development have changed the work pattern with most activities, mostly done manually before, replaced with advanced and sophisticated machines, he added. - BERNAMA
