KUALA LUMPUR : The Light Rail Transit (LRT) operator needs to pay more attention to safety at construction sites along LRT projects, said National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH) chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.

He was commenting on this morning’s incident where a steel beam from the Light Rail Transit (LRT) construction site had fallen on a care near the Federal highway.

“LRT operators have often assured us that safety is given utmost consideration at all construction sites. But their assurance has meant nothing with the incident.

Lee also added that such incidents will continue to occur unless safety measures are put in place.

“Obviously someone is negligent and the contractor has to take full responsibility,” he said.

It was reported that the couple in were injured and rushed to the hospital after the incident.
