Boat explosion injures 2 workers

YAN: Two workers at the Kedah Development Authority (Keda) shipyard in Sungai Udang are fighting for their lives following injuries sustained after a boat exploded yesterday.
The duo, identified as Mohd Shamsul Asfanizal Omar, 24, and trainee Nik Mohd Shafik Nik Mat, 19, were inspecting a leak on the boat when it suddenly exploded.
They were rushed to Yan Hospital before being transferred to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital (HSB) in Alor Star, where they were warded at the Intensive Care Unit.
Firefighters managed to control the blaze from spreading to 10 other boats, worth a total of RM5 million, which belonged to various government agencies.
Losses were estimated at RM800,000, which included the RM500,000 Malaysian Armed Forces vessel which had exploded in the incident.
