Construction companies urged to register with CIDB

The BorneoPost Online, 26 January 2014

MIRI: Construction companies here are urged to register with the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) if they have not done so.

In making the call, Maju Training Consultants chief executive officer Majakin Jilin explained this was in view of the need for those in the construction field to be equipped with the basic knowledge of safety and to keep abreast with developments in the field.

Maju Training Consultants is a locally registered company to provide trainings to contractors in providing a safe working environment.

“Accidents can quite easily occur in the construction industry due to the high risk and nature of the jobs or tasks.

“Therefore, this is where safety plays the main role and is a top priority,” he said at a recent two-day ‘Construction Safety Programme’ organised by the training consultant at a leading hotel here.

The programme was attended by 17 representatives from 3 G-7 contractors here.

Course coordinator Julian Jolly conducted the training programme with National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Malaysia trainer for construction safety Gilbert Lee.

Two topics were presented – ‘Construction Safety’, emphasising on issues and impacts and ‘Environmental Issues in Construction’ (ISO 14001).

Meanwhile, a participant, Jamilah Ibrahim from Perunding Bumipakar Sdn Bhd, said the programme had indeed benefitted her greatly, and she looked forward to a similar one on Feb 24. The coming course would focus on environmental issues in the construction field which would carry 10 Contractor Continuous Development points.
