Damaged: The car’s left fender is slightly dented after the incident.

A USUALLY smooth drive home from work turned into a traumatising one for Prem Velauthan Gopal recently.

The 58-year-old was driving along the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) when he saw sparks and metal pieces landing on his car from an overhead bridge.

The metal pieces were from welding and cutting works being carried out on the bridge’s damaged railings at KM10.4.

The incident left scratches on his car and dented the fender.

A former safety officer, Prem said the incident could have endangered his life.

“They should have observed proper procedures such as using a saftey net,” he said.

He has lodged a report with Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) and the Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH).

Guthrie Corridor Expressway general manager Rostam Shahrif Tami confirmed the incident.

“Our contractor has approached Gopal and offered to repair the damage to his car.”

A DOSH spokesman said officers had visited the site to investigate and resolve the matter.

The contractors could not be reached for comment.
