AS part of its CSR commitment towards the community, Salcon Bhd held its fourth annual blood donation campaign recently, in partnership with the National Blood Centre.

The event, which was held at the concourse area of Summit Shopping Complex, marked the end of Salcon’s Safety and Health Campaign Month.

During the day-long event which was open to the public, various health-related activities were organised.

These included free breast cancer check-up and consultation by Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA) via the association’s Murni Mobile Unit, and free health check-up conducted by TorrensCare, a healthcare organisation.

Exhibition booths were set up by the Selangor Health Department to exhibit and provide useful information on safety and health-related issues.

The event was graced by Selangor Department of Occupational Safety and Health deputy director Anuar Mohamad Mokhtar.

“Occupational Safety and Health is always an area of concern at the workplace.

“It is indeed heartening to see organisations like Salcon doing a good job at raising awareness through the annual Salcon Safety and Health Campaign and the Blood Donation Campaign,” he said.

“We aim to cultivate a safety responsiveness culture amongst Salcon staff in the office, construction site, while commuting to their workplace and also at home,” said Salcon chief operating officer Ooi Cheng Swee at the closing ceremony of the campaign.

“At the same time, we encourage our employees to do their part to reach out and touch the lives of the communities where we operate in. I am delighted to see that we have overwhelming response from our staff for this blood donation programme.”

Other CSR activities conducted by Salcon include the Salcon River and Water Awareness programmes, which recently won an award from the Asia-Pacific Enterprise Leader-ship Awards by Asia-Pacific Enterprise Cooperation held in Singapore recently.

The honorary award was given to Salcon for its continuous efforts and activities in the areas of sustainable development and/or corporate social responsibility (CSR) through the Salcon River and Water Awareness Education programme.

Since 2010, this programme has benefited seven schools and four orphanage homes involving more than 300 children.
