KUCHING: Naim Land Sdn Bhd has achieved one million man-hours without lost time and injury (LTI) for its Bintulu Paragon integrated development project.

The safety achievement was celebrated in a ceremony officiated by Bintulu Development Authority general manager Datuk Mohidin Ishak. Also present were Naim group managing director Datuk Hasmi Hasnan, contractors and staff.

Naim group health, safety and environment (HSE) manager Muhamad Nasiruddin Yahya said Bintulu Paragon’s quality, health, safety and environment (QHSE) achievement was a notable one.

“Naim assumes QHSE stewardship by integrating best practices into our daily operations and that of our contractors. Our QHSE management is a coherent system of ISO 9001:2008, OHSAS 18001:2007 and EMS 14001:2004 and is recognised by Moody International.

“As part of our commitment to QHSE, the Group introduced various policies including healthy workplace and zero accidents, which culminated in the formulation of our QHSE Charter in 2010,” he said.

He also said Naim incorporated other measures, such as utilising scrap materials in its projects, constantly scrutinising chemical storage and waste disposal to prevent pollution and strictly enforcing related policies through surprise checks by its HSE team.

Nasiruddin added that the Group’s QHSE work culture stemmed from the top management’s values and commitment towards it.

“We are inspired by the commitment shown by our group managing director, who would personally make surprise checks to our project sites around the country, lead toolbox meetings and motivate us to constantly raise the bar in terms of QHSE.

“He has shown us that QUHSE is the responsibility of everyone for everyone’s benefit,” he said.

Thanks to its QHSE work culture, Naim has achieved various safety and environmental milestones, such as winning the Sarawak Chief Minister Environmental Award (Large Enterprise Category, Construction) in 2010 and 2012, one million man-hours without LTI for the Majma Tuanku Halim Muadzam Shah and Bengoh Resettlement Scheme projects and five million man-hours without LTI for its Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal project.

Naim was also adjudged one of the top achievers in workplace safety for Petronas’ LNG Train 9 project in Bintulu by achieving 1.2 million man-hours without LTI, thereby contributing significantly to Petronas’ safety achievement of three million man-hours for the project.

Meanwhile, works on Bintulu Paragon are on track with the lower-ground car park and retainin walls expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Once completed, the car park will accommodate over 1,300 cars, the largest in Bintulu.

Works on the street mall and small office versatile office (SOVO) are expected to be completed by the fourth quarter next year and first quarter 2016 respectively.
