LRT incident: SAR called off at 1.44am - New Straits Times Online

KUALA LUMPUR: The search and rescue operation at the site of the collapsed structure at the Ampang LRT extension construction site near Putra Heights, Subang Jaya has been called off after rescuers discovered the second body of a Bangladeshi worker at about 1.05am today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Mohd Sani Harul said firemen had ended its nine-hours search operation to locate the victims under the rubble of formwork and scaffolding. All victims, including the bodies two Bangladeshi construction workers have been accounted for.

“The first dead victim, identified as Md Suman Mollah was found 10.24pm yesterday while another victim identified as Mohammad Alamgir Mohammad Abdul Kashem, 27 was discovered at about 1.05am today.

“Both bodies were handed over to the police and their bodies were brought to Serdang Hospital for post-mortem,” he said.

Sani said in the incident, a terminal on the first floor, where six workers were levelling wet concrete collapsed at about 4.20pm, trapping two workers who were on the ground floor at the LRT terminal construction site in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, near Putra Heights.

Four other workers escaped with minor injuries. Sani said the injured workers were sent to Putrajaya and Serdang hospitals.

Sani said the search operation were called off by 1.44am, shortly after the second body was found.
